Despite some pretty inclement weather here and there numbers improved this week. In particular cattle, which finished at 4,648 head, while sheep and lambs totalled 30,704 head. Steers were as strong as ever this week - the biggest lift in Queensland. Heifers in all locations took the best rise we've seen for some time. Many lots broke the 200c/kg barrier and some exceptionally light heifers (188 kglw) made 263c/kg. The best rate for light steer calves (223 kglw) was 260c/kg. Very few lots of sheep through the week made their way to slaughter. Admittedly there was an absence of this article but lots you'd think would surely go to slaughter went to the restockers. It's a very frustrating period for Processors to go through, but we do need more sheep and with the change of seasons growers are going hard.
